Neon SculptureI used these neon pieces in a couple of installations. First in my Artpace Exhibit here in San Antonio during 1996, and then later, in an installation at the Forum for Contemporary Art in St. Louis during 1997. The combination of hand gestures and facial expressions came to me on a beach in Hawaii. I was thinking about our non verbal body language/ communication that we perceive as young children watching the hand gestures and facial expressions of our parents. This intersected for me with thoughts about the neon signs in our bars and night clubs and how that seemed to be the equivalent of drawings on the wall around the camp fires in the caves of our ancient ancestors. | "Soaring: The Rules Of Engagement" 1995; Mixed Media Installation at Artpace, San Antonio | "So" 1995; Neon on steel frame; | "Please" 1995; Neon on steel frame; 24"H x 38"W x 4"D | "Here" 1995; Neon on steel frame; 42"H x 23"W x 4"D | "Grit" 1995; Neon on steel frame; 36"H x 36"W x 4"D | "Desire" 1995; Neon on steel frame; 38"H x 38"W x 4"D | "Wheel of Desire" 1997; mixed Media Installation at The Forum for Contemporary Art, St. Louis, Missouri | "Wheel of Desire" 1997; Neon on steel frames; 12'H x 12'W x 4"D |
