Ceramics

From 1965-1968, as an undergraduate at Texas Tech University I was a painting major until I was a junior, then fell in love with ceramics when I had to take a required course in it for graduation. I loved the way it felt, the way it worked, and the way it looked. So I started out throwing on the potters wheel, then progressed to hand building, Mixed media, and more. I did allot of ceramic workshops and threw allot of clay around in the early 70’s.

There is allot of ceramic content in the work of those years here. I will make a few notes on specific works. The early 70’s were in Salt Lake City where I was in graduate School for my MFA. 1972-4 was in Tampa Florida where I had my first fulltime teaching position. The years 1974-1980 were spent mostly in Missoula Montana teaching with my great friend Rudy Autio. I had short appointments in 1979 teaching at Alfred University in up state New York, and a semester in Davis California teaching for Robert Arneson.

1980 would bring the big move to Norman Oklahoma and the switch from Ceramics to teaching and making Sculpture.
